Nagahama

New city hall building

Over 50 years old, the Nagahama City Hall Main Building suffered from problems with earthquake resistance, deterioration, decentralization, and space limitations, and its barrier-free access measures were also inadequate. In response, a new city hall with a unified feel was created by situating a new East Building next to a West Building reborn by carrying out large-scale improvements to the existing building on the grounds of the East Annex. This city hall evokes the history and culture of Nagahama, and it is at the same time a facility featuring simplicity and functionality as well as warmth and familiarity.
For service counters, low counters were used wherever possible, and counters take into consideration use by people in wheelchairs. Offices utilize open-space designs and make comprehensive use of bench tables. An effort was made to reduce document archive space through the implementation of paperwork reduction measures and the adoption of a high-efficiency storage system. Extensive working space has been provided to stimulate communication and for use as rest space.
