Then, every stage of design — from hand sketches and CAD, to prototyping and production oversight — caters to the needs of real people in real workspaces.

Trial Production

The craftsmen specialized in making prototypes of our manufacturing department create models and prototypes by hand, allowing comprehensive design critiques and strength testing. They repeatedly tweak the prototypes by adjusting small details to achieve the utmost functionality and beauty.

Mockup Evaluation

Based on the finalized prototype, planning and design leads meet with the heads of manufacturing. Together, they determine the actual manufacture of the product.

Analysis

The strength of a product is verified first through computer-based analyses, then through physical prototype testing on a specialized testing rig. Finally, every Okamura chair is made to perfectly fit the human form – and so, it's tested by the human form.

Consideration for Manufacture

The manufacturing department continues to refine its process and assembly concept for months before the product is finalized. They search for the most efficient way for assembly to minimize the time for assembly process. Every component, every structure, every mechanism of the product's body is carefully considered, then considered again. Especially, intricate parts like adjustable levers for task seating requires a special consideration.
